When first I heard the word “Selfie” I found it quite innovative and
good. It is their work to make technology useful as well as interesting.
Selfe is a photograph that one has taken of oneself. But today when I
hear this word it gives me three thoughts; a photo, trend and risk of
life. Yes, a photo of one who is clicking, of course a trend too because
every single person is crazy for it, and risk of life because it has
been cause of deaths of number of peoples. They died because they made
it obsession.
Mostly the victim of selfie accidents are teenager or youth. Recently,
14 years old boy from Kanjurmarg (Mumbai), succumbed to the burn
injuries he sustained due to electrocution, while trying to click a
selfie, on the roof of a train. In March 2015, Seven Indian youths
drowned while taking selfies on Mangrul Lake near Kuhi, about 20 km from
Nagpur, India. Their boat had tipped over as they were standing up to
pose.
Not only in India, it is a craze or deadly trend in the whole world. In
2014, 11 people died while taking selfie and in 2015 till October, 27
people have died. It may appear small to us, but because of a selfie, 38
is a huge number of people who lost their life.
Selfie became popular as you can listen in songs, and it also makes you
famous. Say deadly trend, crazy craze or an addiction you mean selfie at
last. People took selfie with their relative’s dead body; some took
continuously 6 years to see change in their face.
Danny Bowman, 19, left school and never went out of his house for 6
months in an attempt to take the best selfie of him. He spent 10 hours
taking up to 200 selfies per day using his iPhone and even became
aggressive when his parents tried to stop him. When he reached a point
where he knew he was overly addicted, he tried to commit suicide by
overdosing, but fortunately was rescued by his mum. Perhaps we should
all bear in mind that a selfie addiction could be an indicator of
something else.
\Selfie affected our PM too, he started a campaign called “selfie with
daughter” and then Shruti had criticized PM and tweeted "Seriously get
over your selfie obsession Mr. PM. Be more than a photograph. Come on!"
It is not about India only its about the world, why we become so much
eager about new things that we forget that how to use it. What happens
nowadays is that we don’t use things or technology, these things start
using us, and result is in front of all. 38 deaths, some mental cases,
few controversies and finally we say technology makes us useless, lazy
and it’s harmful for us. No, technology is not doing anything wrong with
us it is us who are using technology in wrong way, we are misjudging
it. There are always two use of a thing, so can’t we use it in a good
way or for betterment.
